Welcome to the Somerset County Golf Partnership

As a brief introduction golf has, for the first time, been identified as one of the top ten sports in England and it is hoped that, with the successful implementation of the Whole Sport Plan, there will be some important changes to English Golf. To achieve success and ensure effective delivery there will be a new "ONE VOICE" structure that embraces men, women, professional, amateur, the able-bodied and disabled.

The formation of the England Golf Partnership brought together the National Governing Bodies of Golf in England and it was appropriate that this should be mirrored at a local level in the form of County Golf Partnerships. As a consequence of this the Somerset Golf Union, Somerset Ladies County Golf Association and the Somerset PGA jointly decided to formulate an application and after the compilation, submission and acceptance of budgets and development plans, the Somerset County Golf Partnership was formed in 2007.

The Partnership was formally launched at two sites, Farrington Golf Club and Taunton Vale Golf Club, with invites to all clubs in the County. 70% of the Counties clubs were represented and all agreed that SCGP could offer much needed help in the recruitment  and retention of members across the range, men, ladies, boys and girls, able bodied and disabled.

*The Partnership will grant £100 to all clubs in the county that attain Golfmark accreditation this year, 2010.*
